But I can't deny that in exchange for those and for staying faithful to the original level design (which I commend), they had to compromise on the physics which led to an artificially harder experience. I got 100% completion and the platinum trophy for each one. I had a lot of fun with the remakes and I was at least happy to see a lot of the QOL changes added to the first game.

In one of the early Crash 2 forest levels, there's a big mud patch with a crate in the middle - in the remake it's near-impossible to land on the crate without touching the mud (it probably is doable but not at all easy, you'd need perfect timing and the sprint power which was not in the original), but in the original it's not only possible but easy to jump on the crate and then land on the other side without touching the mud whatsoever. It's really noticeable if you go back and play the OG Crash 1 and 2, you'll see that Crash seems to jump super far and high compared to 3 and NST. I don't doubt that they tested it extensively, but it's hard not to wonder.
Since the levels were designed with jumping height and distance in mind though, at least one of the games is going to either become harder or easier. So they used the jumping physics from Crash 3, but in that game he jumps the shortest height and distance, and it's also the easiest game in general though it does have some challenging levels. In the original versions, Crash jumps differently in each game, but they wanted to unify the controls to make it smoother for people who want to jump between games, which makes sense. They were put in a really tricky situation when it came to the controls in this remake. I've kept trying to stick with it and get better but I really don't think it's a case of my skill, (I know this game front to back) I think it's just a really, REALLY awful design choice that ultimately makes it horrible to play.
I don't understand how you can make such a simple game so unneccessarily infuriating?! to the point where it makes me genuinely angry.
This single thing alone makes NSane absolutely nightmarish to play. Apparently they're shaped like ovals instead of just polygons like it was in the original, so sometimes you'll just randomly slip off a platform even though you definitely should have been within range to meet with it upon landing. It seems like I'm not the only one that has this problem, but the collision boxes around platforms are really, really weird. or I've just somehow gotten terrible at it. I've played the first Crash game to death on the OG Playstation, even as a kid I found it fairly difficult but I still managed to breeze through it several times.
